The United States is being taken through a long, dark night. Five corrupt Supreme Court Justices appointed Bush and Cheney to the highest offices in the land. Those two then brought in a core cabal of ideological extremists who occupied critical positions in the White House, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Justice.
Including their allies who now control Congress and who have also drunk deeply of the Kool-Aid, corporate and other right-wing backers, and media shills, this entire crew is so divorced from reality that, whatever their individual degree of balance may be, the net result has been policies and positions that any rational observer cannot regard as anything but deeply sociopathic - in a word, insane.
Actually, sociopathic may be too weak a description. As one of the characters quipped in a recent John Sayles movie, a sociopath is "like a psychopath, but with a lower body count". Bush's crew's body count exceeds 100,000, and continues to climb.
This totally reckless and deeply corrupt group is now in control of the Executive branch, both houses of Congress, and , increasingly, even the courts. Their actions and policies threaten our Constitution, the fabric of our society, ours and the global economy, and even the health of the entire planet through their refusal to tackle the problem of global warming. Faced with this dire and unprecedented set of threats, our only possible response is to expose and oppose their initiatives, and work for their electoral defeat.
